"Art in Motion", Study 1.
This is one of several frames that I'm giving this title. Rarely, I have this grand experience of a flock of Geese encircling me. It's easy to become mesmerized during the experience and not think how to record it. Luckily, this flock gave me time to be capture this moment creatively. I purposefully used a slow exposure to accentuate the motion, but even so, you can see the varied levels of motion. The more you look, the more you see.
What I find amazing, is that hundreds of Geese can take off, fly around me, then settle back down in a matter of minutes, in complete harmony.

Tree in Snow
Tree in Snow, Christmas 2012.
I found something mystical about the light near this tree. The fact that it's alone with the other trees in the background, various branches on the ground, and twisted barbed wire fence suggest stories that the tree could tell if possible.
Near Hope, Arkansas.

"Open and Shut"
There are so many interpretations of this photograph, it was tough to title it. The one that I wanted to relay is 'risk and reward'. We often have to open ourselves up to exposure, in order to reap the benefits (ie: the sun, etc). If we stay closed-up, we'll not be able to shine to the world.
I composed this as the last beam of sunlight fell across the petals. Did I mention I was eaten alive by mosquitos? :)
Hope you enjoy.

male Fence Lizard - amazing colors...
The male Northern Fence Lizard (common in Arkansas). Males have the stunning blue throat and belly patches. Females are smaller and have very little color beneath. Its diet consists of arthropods, a family of animals that includes insects, arachnids, millipedes and wasps.
You may find the pose a little odd, with it's head and tail up. I photographed the lizard on a tree, so the angle of the photo is actually vertical, but for display, I've found horizontal to be more interesting. Orig # KS1_7988-8001.

"Inside the Flame"
Butterfly in Daylily, 2006.
I usually just delete photos like this, but I kept this one. I really like the abstract nature of this photograph. The detail of the lining of the daylily petals, along with the detail of the edges of the butterfly's wing provide such depth. I love the intensity and contrast of the colors.

A Moment of Silence
"A Moment of Silence"
I found this scene very captivating. Cardinals are typically hyperactive and always moving. This moment, the snow was falling and the cardinal was completely motionless - as if in deep, reflective thought. You can almost 'hear' the silence. The fact that I shot this from the cardinal's point-of-view seems to add more mystery to the moment.

"Layers in Balance"
"Layers in Balance"
Oftentimes, when we see something in nature, we don't see beyond the first layer. Nature has a way of showing us objects of nature in layers. We just have to look. This not only applies to objects but also to situations.
- Kelly Shipp
The sun was striking the lowest branch of this tree more than the upper branches, which provided this layered perspective. In addition, I found the variety of shapes of leaves interesting. At first glance, you may see chaos, but after studying this photograph, you begin to see patterns and layers. Hope you enjoy.

The Classic Chevy
The Classic Chevy
I spent some extra time on this composition. I really love the color of the car, but I also wanted to stress the emblem and chrome. The reflection of the U.S. flag hanging on the wall was the perfect touch.

Streaming from the Cloud
"Streaming from the cloud"
There was quite a stir of subject matter that caught my attention to capture this scene. The trapped, colorful leaves, the cascading waterfalls at sunset, yet even more so - the 'cloud' of water current swirling between the falls.

Reaching Out
I found this composition 'inviting'. A single stream briefly splits into two and these tree branches really reach out to you.
