Recently, I had the joy of photographing two best friends - mother and daughter. The weather was perfect and the models were a piece of cake. :) Great job you two! Here are a few favorites from the shoot...

Senior shoot

I had great time photographing Paige for her senior photographs. I also convinced her mom to pose for a few with her. The weather was perfect and we produced a lot of great images. Here are just a few favorites...

Hummingbird Clearwing Moth

I took a few minutes today to photograph one of my daily visitors to my backyard. I haven't yet confirmed if this is the Hummingbird Clearwing Moth or the Snowberry Hummingbird Clearwing Moth. Nonetheless, it's a beautiful creature to watch. It's extremely difficult to photograph since they are so small (about 2 inches tall - which is typical of the Snowberry species), but it's also very fast. It moves and hovers similar to a hummingbird but at a more nervous pace. It's wingbeat is about 30 beats per second, which is impressive for a moth. The ones I photographed last year were about 1-2 inches larger (considerably larger).

Keep in mind, I'm manually focusing my lens to capture these...Here are just a few from today. To give you a sense of size, the flowers you see are about the size of a thumbtack.

Largest photograph and camera

The World's largest photograph and camera is now official by Guinness Book of Records. The print measured over 31' x 111'. The project is termed "The Legacy Photo Project". Read more about it here.

I'm a little behind on choosing my favorite image from July. I chose an action photograph of an Eastern Red-tailed Hawk hunting squirrels near my home. This is an impressive raptor to watch in action.

Security bulletin - Photoshop CS2 and CS3

As of July 10, 2007, Adobe has released a security update to it's Photoshop CS2 and CS3 products. The potential vulnerability could compromise your system if you were to open a malicious BMP, DIB, RLE or PNG file.

If you use Photoshop CS2 or CS3, be sure to update your Photoshop as soon as possible from here.

Small gifts can change lives

Occasionally, I come across stories which really inspire us to become the kind and generous people we should be. This such story is certainly one of these. This is a great story of how Annette Biggers' seemingly small gift changed someone's life.

May - Image of the Month

This is one of my favorite images from May. It's a very small butterfly - an Eastern Tailed-Blue (Cupido comyntas). It has a total wingspan of about 3/4 of an inch. It's perched on a blade of grass. After photographing it for more than 20 minutes, I was able to build enough trust for it to let me touch it a few times.
