"Soft Landing"...

 

A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) lands effortlessly at a pond.  Notice how the feet were softly breaking the water, slowing the bird as it lands.

"Smooth Sailing"...

 

In early January, I spent an afternoon photographing Ring-billed Gulls (Larus delawarensis) at Holla Bend NWR. This scene really caught my eye as the colors of the snow-filled, overcast skies matched the color of the gulls wings. Gulls are relatively active when in flight so to capture this posture of the gull relaxed in a turn seems to blend with the smooth texture of the sky.

Oak Wild...

Most don't know that trees are among the largest organisms on our planet. Yet with over 60,000 species of trees, they can be individualistic. Notice the crazy-fun growth of the branches of this tree. The branches and limbs are all over the place, having fun in its own way. The leaves are lit by the sun setting on the horizon, as if popping like popcorn.
Enjoy trees while you have the chance.

"Trees of Leaves"

This is one of many from my leaf projects, where I seek out natural (undisturbed) arrangements of leaves that are appealing to me and have a strong, central leaf that resembles the tree it came from.

Porsche Carrera GT - sepia sketch...

I found it interesting how the lines and personality of the car design changes when color and other distractions are removed.  This supercar has a different personality in this simple, sepia sketch.
