The Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) commonly gets a running start to get aloft on water. It's one of the largest species of waterfowl, with wingspans over 80". This bird is actually a juvenile, with it's grey feathers becoming white after the first year. Populations of this species migrate as far south as Texas.
Location: Magness Lake, Heber Springs, Arkansas. Jan/2014.
