The drive-in theatre...

In 1994, I photographed what remained of this abandoned drive-in theatre in Nashville, Arkansas.

History: Richard Hollingshead, Jr. patented the drive-in theatre in 1933 and opened his first drive-in in June of 1933. The drive-in's peak popularity came in the late 1950's and early 1960's. The year 2001 marked the inception of the "Do-It-Yourself" Drive-In, which utilized contemporary tools such as LCD projectors and micro-radio transmitters. As of 2012, a figure of 368 drive-ins has been published for the United States, though it is unclear how many of these are traditional versus non-traditional. If you'll notice, the brand of speaker is "Modern". :)

Drive-in, Nashville, AR. 03/1994, Fuji Velvia.
